Sad Light Boxes
Welcome to our website. Here you will be able to find suppliers of all types of Sad Light
Boxes
SAD light boxes generally use a number of long fluorescent tubes as the light source. These
provide high intensity light. Some hospitals have SAD light therapy rooms to help out patients
affected with SAD. You can get a SAD light therapy box for personal use, but most of them are pretty
expensive.
SAD light boxes are easy to use, but the intensity (lux) of the light, the duration of each daily
treatment, the ideal time of day for treatment, and the distance you sit from the light has to be
individualized. People who have ever experienced a major depressive episode or a manic or hypo manic episode
should consult with a psychiatrist or other medical doctor before using a SAD light box. People with diseases
of the retina or other eye disease should seek the advice of an ophthalmologist, who should monitor the patient
during the course of treatment.
SAD light boxes work by emitting levels of light designed to look like sunlight. They
come at different levels of brightness, which is measured in lux. To be effective, SAD lights should be a
minimum of 2,500 lux. The higher the lux number, the brighter the light will be and the less time it will
take to be effective.
SAD light boxes are tiny portable devices comprising of fluorescent bulbs and tubes. They are targeted on
our open eyes. Such light therapy imitates the outdoor light and hence alters the chemical balance of the
brain relieving us of the gloomy depressive feeling. Though Food and Drug Administration has not attested
light therapy owing to lack of evidence during clinical trials, the therapy has already been approved by people and
therapists who consider it standard treatment for the SAD patients.
